What a trip!
My 3rd trip to Chattanooga to ride the great 3-State 3-Mountain Challenge Century didn't turn out quite like I had planned. Saturday started out not too terrible, at least until I looked at the weather radar.
At the start line, we were ready to go when a few drops began to fall. Most of us threw on rain jackets just before the race started, a good thing too, because once we got rolling so did the rain.
By mile 3 the rain was growing harder, I saw a few people go down on the tracks and began to wonder if I was actually having any fun at all. At mile 10 I began my ascent of the first "mountain" with a pack of many other riders. The climb was easier than I remembered, or maybe the rain was enough to keep me distracted from a 5 mile uphill grind.
Near the top, I passed a guy on the side of the road and asked if he had everything he needed... he said he needed a bigger wrench. I stopped to help him and quickly found he had lost a crank arm and didn't quite know how to put it back on. We got it fixed and went back to the climb.
I would have to say this was my 3rd trip to 3S3M and I was really not having any fun this time in the heavy downpour. At the top I passed one of the guys from our group who was preparing to head back to Chattanooga. Like me, he had had enough of the rain.
All in all, I would have to say I conquered the "1-State 1-Mountain Minor Tour" this year. I'll be back next year, hoping for better weather and the fun trip this usually turns out to be.
That's my trip report, such as the trip was.
