March 27th - thoughts on IAX

So I am a little late in posting my thoughts about the IAX (Indy Adventures Xposed) event. I figure it is better late than never though.

There was quite a few people who came into Climb Time Indy Friday night. I honestly couldn't tell how many people made the trip out with the manner in which people came and went, but it seemed to be a success. I think Steve and others were pleased with the whole thing. The collection of outdoor shops and clubs alone was great to see.

Shawn and his excellent speaking voice was there to make the important announcements, like the raffle ticket numbers people were given upon entering. There were some great items given away that night. I was really wishing I had won the map case and compass (can't have too many of those!).

Ty and Meredith came away with a nice duffel bag and back pack. With a little music people began milling around, vendors were talking shop and kids were climbing the walls (plenty of adults too). It couldn't get any better than that!

I enjoyed speaking with the women (and men) who stopped by the NSAAR table! How exciting to speak to ladies who haven't done an adventure race before, and who are not only interested for themselves but for the youth in their life. I also love seeing couples and families who support each other in their interests. If a husband is going to do an AR why not the wife, I say!

Meredith (my ever faithful photographer) was there to take up the slack in my abilities of recording the night with pictures. I am going to get her in an AR yet! Ryan and his tow system (inside joke) were working the crowd and I think he has hooked a few into trying out an AR sprint, at least. It was fun looking at IR pics that he had projected onto the wall over the course of the evening.

Carrie was a real trooper manning the ICO table. I think if more people just took the time to figure out what orienteering is all about they would find a great activity that they and their famility would enjoy. Jerry was there for the Planet Advenutre Races and he always has great AR stories to share.

I will post a link soon to the picasa album of photos. I just have to remember to get the card out of the camera to actually upload the pics. :)

I want to extend a heartfelt thanks to Steve, James, and Paula, as well as all the vendors and club representatives who took the time to share their products and interests (for free). IAX is such a great way to reach out to the community, and hopefully draw more people outdoors!

Power Cycling Class...

Really kicks my butt, and tomorrow is supposed to be the most difficult class yet!

Twice a week now (for the month of March) I have been doing watt training. Sapper and Mike swear by it, and they have totally sold me!

My 58 miler on Sunday was much more pleasurable, due in part to my participation in the class.

This is just one more thing to get me addicted to cycling.

ICO 12 hr. Rogaine CP#40

On the return trip form control #40: There are some really beautiful places hidden in Morgan-Monroe SF. What a great course and fun company this year!

Having a close encounter with a downed tree had me visiting the doctor only to find that 12 hours is a little too long to wait to get stitches. Should have a nice scar to remember the day now. :)

After waking this morning with the standard aches and pains and my event badge (laceration), I am really looking forward to the next event that takes me out in the woods!
