Paddling Saturday

Last Saturday's paddle was absolutely beautiful. The weather was in the 70's and I've never seen the Eagle Creek Reservoir so calm during the daytime.

We started around 8:30 from the bridge north of 79th on Lafayette Road, keep in mind there's currently no bridge at that spot. We paddled the short distance down Eagle Creek and into the reservoir, 2 canoes and 2 kayaks.

We realized we were on the "walking wounded" paddle trip for the day. We had Cristal was all decked out in her "Hammer" boot cover, and securely locked into the cockpit of her kayak for the trip. We also had Dave as he continues to recover from his knee surgery. He informed us he's not allowed to swim, so dumping the canoe was not an option.

Despite the injuries, we had a great time. I'll post some pictures later today.

Announcement :: TNT Race Series

With the knee injury keeping me off my feet and off my bike for a couple more weeks, I've had time to get a lot of items knocked off my list.

I'm excited to announce that registration is open for the new Tuesday Night Trail (TNT) Race Series in July/August.

Check out the site and register to come race with us!

3S3M Start Line

Before the downpour....

What a trip!

My 3rd trip to Chattanooga to ride the great 3-State 3-Mountain Challenge Century didn't turn out quite like I had planned. Saturday started out not too terrible, at least until I looked at the weather radar.

At the start line, we were ready to go when a few drops began to fall. Most of us threw on rain jackets just before the race started, a good thing too, because once we got rolling so did the rain.

By mile 3 the rain was growing harder, I saw a few people go down on the tracks and began to wonder if I was actually having any fun at all. At mile 10 I began my ascent of the first "mountain" with a pack of many other riders. The climb was easier than I remembered, or maybe the rain was enough to keep me distracted from a 5 mile uphill grind.

Near the top, I passed a guy on the side of the road and asked if he had everything he needed... he said he needed a bigger wrench. I stopped to help him and quickly found he had lost a crank arm and didn't quite know how to put it back on. We got it fixed and went back to the climb.

I would have to say this was my 3rd trip to 3S3M and I was really not having any fun this time in the heavy downpour. At the top I passed one of the guys from our group who was preparing to head back to Chattanooga. Like me, he had had enough of the rain.

All in all, I would have to say I conquered the "1-State 1-Mountain Minor Tour" this year. I'll be back next year, hoping for better weather and the fun trip this usually turns out to be.

That's my trip report, such as the trip was.

3 State 3 Mountain Challenge

Packet pickup.... Finally, after the longest drive of the century. The entire drive down was filled with rain storms and traffic jams. Along the way we rerouted twice to avoid accidents and interstate parking lots.

Tomorrow will be much more enjoyable for sure....
